Pityriasis amiantacea: a distinctive presentation of psoriasis associated with tumour necrosis factor?? inhibitor therapy
We present a case of PA as a complication of underlying psoriasis, which developed during tumour necrosis factor (TNF)?? inhibitor therapy for Crohn disease. This paradoxical cutaneous reaction to anti?TNF?? threapy has been recently described as an emerging and perplexing cause of psoriasis and psoriasiform eruptions. Accuracy of dermoscopic criteria for the diagnosis of psoriasis, dermatitis, lichen planus and pityriasis rosea
Conclusions:? PP, LP, PR and dermatitis show specific dermoscopic patterns that may aid their clinical diagnosis. Certain combinations of dermoscopic features can reliably predict the diagnosis of PP. (Source: British Journal of Dermatology)

Febrile Ulceronecrotic Mucha?Habermann Disease with Central Nervous System Vasculitis
We report a case of FUMHD in an 11?year?old boy who subsequently developed neurologic symptoms and was found to have necrotizing vasculitis on brain biopsy. Over 5?years of follow?up, he had one biopsy?proven recurrence of his skin lesions and continued rehabilitation and treatment for residual neurologic complications. This case provides histological evidence of central nervous system vasculitis associated with FUMHD. Our patient?s disease was eventually controlled with cyclophosphamide. Skin diseases in Greek and immigrant children in Athens
Conclusions? Children diagnosed with skin diseases 24?30?years earlier were younger; exhibited lower prevalences of dermatitis/eczema (P?=?0.01), viral infections (P?<?0.001) and nevi (P?<?0.001); higher prevalences of bacterial and fungal infections (P?<?0.001) and insect bites (P?<?0.01); and similar rates of scabies (P?=?0.17). This study documents the high prevalence of atopic dermatitis in the region, the increasing incidence of viral infections and nevi, and the continuing problem of scabies, especially in immigrants. The malassezia genus in skin and systemic diseases.
Authors: Gaitanis G, Magiatis P, Hantschke M, Bassukas ID, Velegraki A
Abstract
Summary: In the last 15 years, the genus Malassezia has been a topic of intense basic research on taxonomy, physiology, biochemistry, ecology, immunology, and metabolomics. Currently, the genus encompasses 14 species. The 1996 revision of the genus resulted in seven accepted taxa: M. furfur, M. pachydermatis, M. sympodialis, M. globosa, M. obtusa, M. restricta, and M. slooffiae. In the last decade, seven new taxa isolated from healthy and lesional human and animal skin have been accepted: M. dermatis, M. japonica, M. yamatoensis, M. nana, M. caprae, M. equina, and M. cuniculi. However, forthcoming multidisciplinary research is expected to show the etiopathological relationships between these new species...

Pityriasis versicolor during anti?TNF?? monoclonal antibody therapy: therapeutic considerations
SummaryAnecdotal reports have shown that tumour necrosis factor (TNF)?? inhibition may cause unchecked superficial infection with the microorganisms responsible for pityriasis versicolor (PV). We observed several cases of PV, which is frequently resistant to topical therapies, in psoriatic patients undergoing anti?TNF?? monoclonal antibody therapy. To evaluate the incidence and the therapeutic management of PV in this group of individuals, between 1 January and 27 December 2010, we examined 153 psoriatic patients for the hypopigmented/hyperpigmented macular and scaling lesions associated with PV. All patients positive for PV were given topical therapy with miconazole nitrate cream twice daily for 28?days, after which they were re?evaluated. In patients non?responsive to topic...
