Drug Category: Thyrotrophin-releasing hormone: TRH. Generic Name: Protirelin tartrate. Contents: Inj: Protirelin tartrate 0.732mg equiv to protirelin 0.5mg. Indications: For the improvement of neurological deficits in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Parkinsonism and ataxia of spinocerebellar degeneration. Assessment of thyroid function and thyroid stimulating hormone reserve. Dosage: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: Adults:200-500mcg by IV infusion at 2 to 19mcg per minute. Assessment of thyroid function and thyroid stimulating hormone reserve: Adults: IV inj 200mcg. Children: 1mcg/kg. Precautions: Severe hypopituitarism, myocardial ishaemia, obstrutive airway disease, pregnancy. Interactions: Dopamine. bromocriptine, chlorpromazine, thioridazine, aspirin, glucocorticosterod, theophylline. lithium, ranitidine, oestrogens. Adverse effects: After rapid IV administration, desire to micturate. flushing, dizziness, nausea, strange taste; transient increase in pulse rate and blood pressure; rarely bronchospasm.
